Urine Culture & Sensitivity

Identifies the germ causing a urinary infection and the right antibiotic.

The sample is cultured for 24–72 hours so the germ can grow, then tested against antibiotics.

Very important with repeated infections, infections that do not respond to treatment, and in pregnancy.

Preparation before the test

  • Give the sample before starting any antibiotic.
  • First morning, midstream urine in a sterile container.
